Brenden Espenell makes NCAA D1 hockey commitment

Sioux Falls, SD – Brenden Espenell has announced his D1 commitment to play men’s hockey at Merrimack College. Merrimack College is in North Andover, MA and participates in the Hockey East conference.

Espenell (’07), a native of Winnipeg, MB, recently completed the 2023-2024 season with the Sioux Falls Power 16U team. He posted a career high14 goals and 25 assists for 39 pts in 64 games.

Following his college commitment, the 6’2” right-handed defenseman was selected by the Des Moines Buccaneers in the 2024 Phase II USHL draft in the 11th round, 155th overall.

The Sioux Falls Power 16U team ended the year as the 12th ranked team in Tier 1 AAA 16U hockey in the United States and competed in the National Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Sioux Falls POWER Tier 1 hockey program is based out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with teams competing at the 14U, 15o, 16U and 18U levels.
