Sioux Falls Power’s Brayden Thompson Commits to University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks

Sioux Falls, SD – Sioux Falls Power is proud to announce that Brayden Thompson ('08), a skilled defenseman and native of Winnipeg, MB, has officially committed to play Division I men’s hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Thompson will join the Mavericks, a respected program in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

Thompson, currently in his second season with the Sioux Falls Power 16U team, finished the 2023-2024 season with an impressive 47 points, showcasing his exceptional two-way play from the blue line. His standout tenure with the Sioux Falls Power program has included two appearances at the USA Hockey Tier 1 National Tournament, where he demonstrated his strong defensive presence, vision, and ability to contribute offensively.

“We are incredibly proud of Brayden and all the hard work he has put in to reach this point,” said Noelle Needham, head coach of Sioux Falls Power 16U team. “His commitment to the Mavericks is a testament to his dedication and talent, and we know he will continue to make an impact on and off the ice at UNO.”

The University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, based in Omaha, NE, compete in the highly competitive NCHC, providing Thompson the opportunity to further develop his game at the collegiate level. Known for his smart decision-making, puck-moving ability, and physicality, Thompson is set to be a valuable addition to the Mavericks' defensive corps.

The Sioux Falls Power hockey program, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is dedicated to developing elite young athletes through its Tier 1 teams at the 14U, 15O, 16U, and 18U levels. The program’s emphasis on skill development and competitiveness has produced numerous players who have gone on to succeed at the collegiate and professional levels.
